About me

My name is Ruchi Patel. I am a mother of two grownup boys and a grandmother. I was born in a small town in Gujarat India and migrated to Chicago, IL in 1973.  My journey into the world of cooking started as an early teenager. I was inspired by both of my parents where it was very important to them for a girl to obtain an education, become independent and learn the house chores, especially cooking to help feed our ever growing family of brothers, sisters, in-laws, and cousins.

My first name has a very appropriate meaning; “desire” and “taste”. I  first learned to make authentic Indian food from my mother, Ganga. Eventually, we both explored and learned together to make a variety of international foods.

Eating healthy at home and saving money was very important to my parents since I was brought up in a middle class family. I learned to make international dishes by eating out and trying various ethnic foods. Over time, my imagination from international dishes helped me to create delicious fusion dishes such as Thai-Mex, Indo-Malay, and Indo-Chinese.

I was encouraged by my family, friends and IT Colleagues to build a website where I could share some of my great traditional Indian Gujarati dishes, my creation of international dishes,  and fusion food.

Stick around, and you will learn to make some easy recipes for those who have limited time balancing between work and family. You will also learn to make some of my secret homemade sauces, pickles, and spices.

Please be sure to subscribe to my website to get further details of my special secret spices.

I hope my recipes bring you closer to discovering the great varieties and tastes in the world that can bring joy and smiles to all those who you choose to share them with. Be it your family, friends, coworkers, or even on a peaceful night to yourself.

Bon Appetit,

Ruchi
